I have three lovely cats at home: Thirteen, an aborigine, and Little Yellow Duck and Little White, stray cats that I adopted. Through taking care of them, I have learned that instead of waiting for cats to get sick and spending a lot of money on treatments, it is better to pay attention to their diet and living habits from the beginning to keep them healthy. This will not only save your heart, but also save a lot of money on medical bills.
Here are some of the experiences I’ve shared to help you:
1️⃣ Vaccination and deworming are indispensable: regular vaccination and deworming of cats is the foundation of keeping them healthy. This can effectively prevent many common diseases and parasitic infections.
2️⃣ Blue cats are timid and need to be taken care of: blue cats are naturally timid, so try not to force them to take a bath in the pet hospital to avoid triggering a stress reaction. If conditions allow, you can bathe them at home or clean their face, body and paws with wet wipes every day, and clean their ears and comb their fur regularly to prevent tangles. In contrast, field cats are more timid and can be bathed regularly.
3️⃣ High-protein cat food is healthier: try to choose high-protein cat food, which is very important for your cat’s health. There are some well-reputed low-temperature baked cat foods online that you can try.
4️⃣ Daily necessities should be prepared: in addition to snacks, canned food and cat strips, you should also prepare some common items, such as eye drops, disinfectant wipes, cotton swabs, potassium amoxicillin clavulanate (antibiotic), trace element supplements and cat grass tablets. For example, my little yellow duck’s eyes are prone to inflammation, so I always keep cat eye drops on hand just in case.
5️⃣ Drinking Fountain Filter Cotton Should Be Replaced Often: I will stock up on some cat drinking fountain filter cotton during shopping festivals (e.g. 6.18 and Double 11). Especially in summer, the filter cotton is prone to mold, so it is recommended to change it every two weeks and clean the water dispenser every three days to make sure the water is clean.
6️⃣ Avoid scaring your cat: never scare your cat for fun! Every time I see a video of someone intentionally scaring a cat, it makes me cringe. Blue cats, in particular, are prone to severe stress reactions, and prolonged scaring may trigger health problems such as cardiac hypertrophy, which will be too late to regret! There are also some people who force their cats to do actions it doesn’t like to gain attention, this behavior is really not desirable.
7️⃣ Clean environment + interaction: provide a clean living environment for your cat and clean the litter box in time. At the same time, try to spend more time with them, especially when there is only one cat in the house. Cats can also get depressed, so interaction and care are very important!
One last thing to add: cat food should ideally be changed every six months to a year, and cats should have regular checkups after they turn three to make sure they’re healthy.
I hope these tips will help you take better care of your cat, and may your fur baby be healthy and happy!
